Under the GEAF Ambassador Programme, this initiative was led by Tapas Kumar Mollick, GEAF Ambassador and Executive Director of SESDO, during the 4.29 Green Earth Action Day 2026 in coastal Bangladesh.
SESDO provided volunteer support and technical assistance to help implement this youth-led climate action initiative on the ground.
On 29 April, nearly 300 students, teachers, and community members gathered at Khalishkhali Saiva Balika Vidyalaya in one of the worldโs most climate-vulnerable regions, not just to discuss environmental change, but to take meaningful action.
From climate education sessions to plastic clean-up and tree planting, the event demonstrated the power of youth-led environmental action at scale. A key highlight was the Tree Ownership Model, where each participant became a guardian of their own tree, transforming awareness into long-term environmental responsibility.
This is what real climate action looks like in the Sundarbans:
local, youth-driven, and impactful.
SESDO remains committed to scaling this approach, with a goal of reaching 5,000 students and 5,000 trees by 2030.
Grateful to the Green Earth Action Foundation for enabling and inspiring this contribution to a global youth climate movement.
