Representing Bangladesh at GEAF Climate Action Conversations on Water Bankruptcy

I am deeply honoured to have been invited to speak at Episode 6 of the Green Earth Action Foundation’s (GEAF) Climate Action Conversations webinar, titled “How to Respond to Water Bankruptcy?”

The webinar brought together experts, practitioners, and environmental leaders from around the world to discuss one of the most pressing global challenges: the growing threat of water bankruptcy and the urgent need for sustainable, community-driven solutions.

For me, this was more than an opportunity to speak. It was an opportunity to represent the voices, challenges, and aspirations of climate-vulnerable coastal communities in the Sundarbans region of Bangladesh.

Through the GEAF Ambassador Programme, I have received continuous guidance, mentorship, encouragement, and support that have strengthened both my confidence and my commitment to community-led climate action. This experience has inspired me to develop practical solutions that connect ecosystem restoration with people’s livelihoods, well-being, and long-term resilience.

During the webinar, I shared the work of Mangroves4Life, SESDO’s community-led mangrove restoration initiative in Gabura Union, Satkhira. Through this initiative, we are restoring degraded mangrove ecosystems, strengthening climate resilience, empowering young people and women, and promoting long-term community stewardship of nature using the Community-Based Ecological Mangrove Restoration (CBEMR) approach.

I sincerely thank the entire GEAF team, the moderators, fellow speakers, and all participants for creating a meaningful platform where local experiences can contribute to global conversations and inspire collective action.

At SESDO, we firmly believe that lasting climate solutions begin within communities. When local people are trusted, empowered, and supported, they become the driving force behind resilient ecosystems, sustainable livelihoods, and a more climate-resilient future.

Together, let us protect water, restore nature, and build a better future for all.
