Beyond Planting: Growing the Roots of Restoration

Beyond Planting: Growing the Roots of Restoration

Restoration does not begin with planting a seed.

While preparing for the next phase of field restoration in Gabura, Satkhira, our Mangroves4Life journey has also been expanding beyond the restoration site.

Over the past few weeks, SESDO has been visiting schools and engaging students in learning about mangrove ecosystems, their importance for biodiversity and coastal communities, and the role young people can play in protecting them.

We are also encouraging children across Bangladesh to participate in the 26th Annual International Children’s Mangrove Art Contest 2026 by Mangrove Action Project (MAP), giving young people an opportunity to learn about mangroves and express their connection with nature through art.

We hope to see strong participation from children across Bangladesh this year.

For us, Mangroves4Life is much more than tree planting.

From schools to restoration sites, we are building the foundations for long-term care of the mangrove ecosystem.

Together, we are growing more than mangroves.

We are growing knowledge, stewardship, resilience, and a new generation of voices for the mangroves.

This school awareness programme is organized by SESDO in partnership with YPARD Bangladesh, with support from the Mangroves4Life project funded by Ma Earth, and in collaboration with Mangrove Action Project (MAP).
