Project Significance

Climate change has become one of the greatest challenges facing the world today, including Bangladesh. Every year, climate-induced disasters such as cyclones, floods, storm surges, and heavy rainfall severely affect coastal communities. These disasters damage lives, homes, livelihoods, crops, and infrastructure, pushing already vulnerable people into deeper poverty.

Coastal and near–Sundarbans communities are among the most affected. Many families struggle daily to meet basic needs such as food, shelter, and education. Climate change has disrupted traditional livelihoods and increased uncertainty and suffering.

Recognizing the urgency of this crisis, SESDO (Social and Environmental Sustainable Development Organization) initiated this project to support climate-vulnerable communities through adaptation, mitigation, and resilience-building measures.

Project Objectives

  • To stand beside coastal and climate-vulnerable people during emergencies and disasters
  • To provide food, shelter, and proper care for community resources during natural calamities
  • To create and promote alternative livelihood opportunities
  • To provide skills training for women on home-based and income-generating activities
  • To give special attention to children’s education and ensure continuous monitoring

Key Focus Areas

  • Climate change adaptation and disaster response
  • Livelihood diversification and income generation
  • Women’s empowerment through skills development
  • Child education support in climate-affected areas
  • Community resilience and social protection

Expected Impact

  • Improved safety and resilience of coastal communities
  • Reduced vulnerability during climate disasters
  • Increased household income through alternative livelihoods
  • Empowered women contributing to family and community well-being
  • Improved access to education for children
  • Stronger community capacity to adapt to climate change

Call to Action

Climate change is a shared challenge that requires collective solutions. SESDO calls upon communities, partners, donors, and stakeholders to work together to strengthen climate resilience, protect livelihoods, and support vulnerable coastal populations. Together, we can build a safer, more resilient future for those most affected by climate change.
