Conservation of nature and biodiversity is important for people and the planet

Today our biodiversity is under threat due to various factors including climate change. But we must remember how important it is for us to conserve biodiversity. Healthy biodiversity = healthy people and the planet. Our future and the future of food depend on this biodiversity. Protecting it means protecting our planet. Bees and butterflies, for example, are part of the biodiversity on which we all depend for our survival. From bees to earthworms to coral reefs to rainforests and biodiversity help keep our agri-food systems healthy, productive and resilient. The restoration and conservation of wildlife and their role in ecosystems is also a key component of natural climate solutions that can increase the ability to limit climate warming to more than 1.5°C.

But I want to say one thing with sadness, that is, the biodiversity crisis is not being discussed in that way now. Most of our attention is focused on climate change. But we need to remember that, as climate change and biodiversity are linked, these crises are also interrelated and we must solve them together. Now is the time to talk about biodiversity through education. Biodiversity, which is important for food and agriculture, is being lost today for food and agriculture. We need to realize how essential this biodiversity is to people and the planet. To protect biodiversity we need to grow plants that are friendly to bees, butterflies, wildlife, insects, and provide food and water for birds.

And agricultural biodiversity basically means different species of plants and animals used in agriculture. Maintaining agricultural biodiversity can bring a range of benefits, including increased resilience, improved nutrition and a better ecosystem.

Benefits of Agricultural Biodiversity

  1. Offers us diverse and nutritious food
  2. Helps plants and animals adapt to climate change
  3. Increases the resilience of producers
  4. Preserves the health of our ecosystems
  5. Improves soil fertility and water quality

By protecting and promoting biodiversity, we are protecting our environment, and ensuring a better future for future generations. Let us all support the farmers, stand by farmers, because they are playing an important role in biodiversity conservation. Let us, from our individual places, speak up as per our ability to save this biodiversity.
