Mangroves4Life: Expanding Restoration for Coastal Protection in the Sundarbans Region of Bangladesh
We’re thrilled to share that our Mangroves4Life initiative has successfully expanded mangrove restoration to another 0.75 hectares of degraded coastal land in Gabura Union, Satkhira District.
Method: CBEMR
Landscape Type: Landscape & Seascape
Location: Gabura Union, Shyamnagar Upazila, Satkhira District
Community Involvement at the Heart of Restoration:
Our approach is built on five key principles: Community-Based, Community Involvement, Community Leadership, Community Stewardship, and Community Ownership.
We:
* Engage and connect with local communities to build trust.
* Inspire participation through awareness of the vital role of mangroves.
* Empower motivated community members to take action.
* Co-design restoration plans with local people to ensure long-term ownership and sustainability.
This new phase builds on our earlier achievement of 0.54 hectares restored, marking a total of 1.29 hectares now under active restoration!
From women to youth, everyone is coming together with one voice: “Mangrove Restoration”. Together, we’re restoring mangroves, building climate resilience, protecting the Sundarbans, supporting sustainable livelihoods, and securing a safer, empowered future for coastal communities.
