SESDO Hosts Technical Discussion with Wetlands International South Asia on Community Led Mangrove Restoration

On 18 July 2026, the SESDO team had the privilege of meeting with Sridhar A., Senior Technical Officer (Coasts & Deltas), Wetlands International South Asia, for a technical discussion on community-led mangrove restoration in the Sundarbans.

The discussion focused on Mangroves4Life, SESDO’s community-led mangrove restoration initiative, and explored key aspects of Community-Based Ecological Mangrove Restoration (CBEMR), long-term monitoring, community stewardship, sustainable livelihood integration, and the importance of evidence-based mangrove restoration.

During the meeting, the SESDO team also shared its restoration philosophy, which emphasizes beginning with proof of concept, learning from field experience, and scaling restoration gradually based on evidence. The discussion highlighted the importance of long-term commitment, strong community ownership, continuous monitoring, and prioritizing natural regeneration, assisted natural regeneration, and gap filling where appropriate to support successful and sustainable mangrove restoration.

SESDO sincerely thanks Sridhar A. for his valuable time, thoughtful discussions, and genuine interest in Mangroves4Life and our restoration efforts. We look forward to staying connected and continuing the exchange of knowledge and experience.
