From Bangladesh to the World: SESDO’s Remarkable Achievement in the 26th Children’s Mangrove Art Contest
169 Young Voices. 18 Featured Artworks. 1 National Winner. A Lasting Inspiration.
A remarkable milestone for SESDO and a proud moment for Bangladesh!
Through its school awareness initiative, conducted in partnership with YPARD Bangladesh as an awareness programme partner, the Social & Environmental Sustainable Development Organization (SESDO) facilitated the submission of 169 student artworks from Bangladesh to the 26th Annual Children’s Mangrove Art Contest, organized by Mangrove Action Project (MAP).
The international results brought two extraordinary milestones for SESDO’s initiative.
18 Artworks Featured in the 2027 Virtual Art Gallery
A total of 18 artworks submitted through SESDO’s initiative were selected for the 2027 Virtual Art Gallery. This represents 15.9% of all 113 artworks featured in the gallery, reflecting the creativity and enthusiasm of the participating students.
Bangladesh’s Only Global Winner
Among the 13 international winners, Mst. Shimla Khatun, a 16-year-old student of Daulatpur ML High School, was the only winning artist representing Bangladesh in this year’s contest.
Her artwork will also be featured in The Children’s International Mangrove Art Calendar 2027, bringing international recognition to a young artist from Bangladesh.
A Milestone Beyond Recognition
For SESDO, this achievement goes beyond numbers and international recognition. It represents the power of children’s creativity, environmental awareness and community-based school engagement.
Through this initiative, students had an opportunity to express their understanding of mangrove ecosystems and their importance through art. Their participation helped connect local learning with a global platform for environmental awareness.
Building on this memorable first-year experience, SESDO looks forward to reaching more schools, students, teachers and parents or guardians across Bangladesh in 2027 through more innovative, creative and locally relevant approaches.
Our Sincere Appreciation
SESDO extends its heartfelt gratitude to Mangrove Action Project (MAP) for providing this meaningful global platform, YPARD Bangladesh for its partnership as an awareness programme partner, and all participating schools, teachers, students and parents for making this initiative possible.
This is a milestone SESDO will cherish for years to come.
Together, let’s nurture young voices for a greener future.
