World Environment Day 2026: Gabura, Sundarbans, Bangladesh
On 5 June 2026, SESDO organized a community-based World Environment Day awareness session in Gabura Union, Satkhira, one of the most climate-vulnerable coastal regions of the Sundarbans in Bangladesh.
The event was held in collaboration with Green Earth Action Foundation and YPARD Bangladesh under our Mangroves4Life initiative.
We engaged 30 women and youth participants in meaningful discussions on climate change, biodiversity conservation, coastal ecosystem protection, and the importance of mangrove restoration for long-term resilience.
In Gabura, climate change is not a future threat. It is a daily reality. From cyclones to salinity intrusion, communities here live on the frontline. That is why nature-based solutions like mangrove restoration are not optional. They are essential for survival. While the world celebrates Environment Day today, for us, every day is Environment Day.
Through Mangroves4Life, we continue working with local communities to restore degraded mangrove ecosystems using a Community-Based Ecological Mangrove Restoration (CBEMR) approach, ensuring community ownership, participation, and long-term stewardship.
Because protecting mangroves means protecting lives. And protecting nature means protecting our future.
Thank you to all community members, youth, and partners who joined and contributed to this important day of action.
